Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
BENELLI is an Italian manufacturer famous for producing shotguns. They started the modern auto-loader revolution in 1992 by introducing the original SBE, just one year after the federal ban on the use of lead shot for waterfowling came into effect in the United States. The new gun was equipped with a patented Inertia-driven operating system, which was actually invented by Italian engineer Bruno Civolani back in 1967.
The federal prohibition on lead-shot ammunition in 1991 was a turning point for Benelli's development of the 3-1/2-inch Super Black Eagle, as stated by George Thompson, director of products for Benelli USA. Although Benelli had been producing excellent shotguns for over two decades, the launch of the Super Black Eagle in 1992 was what kickstarted the company's success in the U.S. The shotgun's Inertia-driven technology, which would soon become famous, provided consistent and reliable cycling for 2 3/4-, 3-, and 3 1/2-inch shells without requiring any adjustments. In addition, because the system expels gas and debris out of the barrel instead of using it to cycle shells, these shotguns can perform flawlessly in any weather condition with minimal cleaning required.
The SBE has been a popular choice among waterfowlers and upland bird hunters for several years.
