Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. released an article on November 07, 2006, announcing a cased set of .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum "Flat Tops" with matching serial numbers. In 2005, Sturm, Ruger celebrated the 50th Anniversary of its first centerfire revolver, the legendary Ruger Blackhawk® in .357 Magnum, by announcing a 50th Anniversary model. Produced only in 2005, the original Blackhawk-size "Flat Top" frame featured an original "micro"-style click adjustable rear sight and a smaller pre-1962 "XR-3" grip frame with checkered "hard rubber" grips bearing original-style black Ruger medallions. This unique blued single-action revolver sported a 4-5/8-inch barrel and a special commemorative gold-colored rollmark.
The .357 Magnum 50th Anniversary New Model Blackhawk benefited from 50 years of continuous refinements, including a unique reverse-indexing pawl for easy loading and unloading, a new hammer spring to make cocking easier than ever, and of course, Sturm, Ruger's patented transfer bar ignition system. The year 2006 was the 50th anniversary of one of the most popular handgun cartridges ever produced: the venerable .44 Magnum. To commemorate this milestone, Ruger offered the 50th Anniversary .44 Magnum "Flat Top." The .44 has many of the same features as the .357 50th Anniversary model but with a 6-1/2" barrel and unique gold color-filled roll mark.
