Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In 1972, Winchester decided that a 22 caliber rimfire rifle needed to be developed along the lines of the timeless Model 94. But this was not to be just another 22 rifle. It had to be designed with an improved lever action that was stronger, and operated faster and more smoothly than any other 22 caliber ever made. Enter the Model 9422: Quality and superb workmanship headlined its design. From the cold-formed steel barrel and forged steel receiver and frame, to the high-gloss walnut stock and forearm, the new Winchester Model 9422 offered the look, feel and performance of a quality firearm. The prototype endured exhaustive testing to ensure its reliability, including special high-pressure proof loads and 35,000 rounds of standard ammunition. Every feature, every part, every aspect of the Model 9422 was carefully designed and built to measure up to the standard of every Winchester rifle.

The Model 9422 was an instant success, winning public approval at every level across the country. Its exceptional balance fit well in the hands of its shooters, and its accuracy became legendary for small game hunters and target shooters alike. Throughout the years, the 9422 had been produced in several different models, including the Trapper, the Wrangler, the Legacy and the Traditional. Each model featured the same reliable action, precision barrel and finely-fitted wood stock and forearm. Several special collector edition models were also produced and have become highly sought after by gun enthusiasts around the world. The Cheyenne and Cherokee 22, the Model 94/Model 9422 Matched Set and the Boy Scout and Eagle Scout special edition rifles, built in 1985, have raised the level of the 9422, enhancing this already exceptional rifle with unique and intricate engraving, precisely cut checkering on beautifully marbled wood, and gold and pewter-finished receivers. These rare, and highly collectable rifles continue to increase in value and stature, year after year.

2005 marks the final year of production for the Model 9422. The intricate working mechanisms and complex design of the 9422 are no longer economically viable to produce in today's mass-production market. The tooling is being retired; production will cease, and the legendary Model 9422 will go down in history as one of the greatest lever-action, 22 caliber rimfire rifles ever to be produced. In its final year, the 9422 will be honored with special collector, limited edition models in a Tribute Series. Like its early special edition predecessors, the Tribute Series will be sought after by gun collectors and enthusiasts, and will only continue to increase in value. The Custom Tribute model features a nickel nitride receiver in a production run of only 222. The High Grade and Special Edition models feature deeply-blued receivers and are produced in a special run of only 9,422. Each rifle depicts an engraving or inlay of the traditional Winchester Horse and Rider on the receiver. As the last production run of the Model 9422, these unique and rare Tribute Series rifles are sure to become classics in their own right. The Model 9422 has, for more than three decades, been the rimfire rifle that thousands of hunters and shooters have trusted for rugged dependability, reliable performance and exceptional accuracy. Owning a Tribute Series 9422 is an honor and privilege never to be had again.
