Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this Rare & Desirable double-action revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Smith & Wesson 460ES “Emergency Survival” Tool Kit!
The Smith & Wesson 460ES “Emergency Survival” Tool Kit was designed as a complete, all-in-one survival package, packaged in a rugged, waterproof Storm case for reliable storage whether in the field or on the move. Each kit contains a comprehensive selection of essential tools—including a Blast Match firestarter with WetFire tinder, a Saber Cut saw with sheath, Jet Scream whistle, Star Flash signal mirror, Polaris compass, two MPI Mylar emergency blankets, and a Smith & Wesson Extreme Ops folding knife—making it exceptionally well-equipped for backcountry emergencies.
Notably, this example is one of only three special “Bear Attack” models produced in the ES lineup, which includes the 460ES, 500ES, and 629ES, making it especially appealing to collectors who value limited-run survival firearms paired with purpose-built gear.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson 460ES (Emergency Survival) is a compact variant of the powerful X-Frame revolver line, introduced in the mid-2000s as part of Smith & Wesson’s effort to offer extremely high-performance handguns suited for backcountry protection and emergency use. Built around the .460 S&W Magnum cartridge—one of the fastest and most energetic revolver rounds ever produced—the 460ES was designed to deliver deep penetration and stopping power in a portable package. Its shorter barrel, high-visibility finish, and included survival-oriented accessories made it stand apart from the larger hunting-oriented 460 models while still offering the same rugged construction and performance pedigree. Production was limited, with the model appearing for only a few years, adding to its modern collector interest. In practical terms, the 460ES offered shooters an unusual combination of versatility and raw ballistic capability, firing not only .460 S&W Magnum but also .454 Casull and .45 Colt for a broad range of recoil and performance options. The revolver’s compact profile made it more suitable for hikers, outdoorsmen, and those traveling in dangerous wildlife territory who needed maximum power without the size and weight of a long-barreled hunting revolver. Over time, its scarcity, distinctive design, and association with the early era of S&W’s X-Frame development have made the 460ES particularly appealing to collectors seeking uncommon or transitional models within the 460 lineup.
