This particular variation is a unique offering from the Colt Custom Shop. Distributor Lew Horton commissioned a series of limited edition 1911 models known to collectors as the “El Series.” These pistols featured a range of trims but were mostly chambered in .38 Super, with most having Bright Stainless slides and frames. It appears that an overrun of these components led to the creation of this “EL CEN” model, which is only stamped with the “COLT CUSTOM” label on the slide.

The rest of the pistol features the required serial and maker markings, while the rest of the firearm is polished to a mirror-like finish. The .38 Super cartridge made its mark in ammunition history with its speed rather than size.
