Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
There have been several variations of SIG’s original workhorse handgun, the P226, since the initial service pistol trials in 1984. The popularity of the 226 in military, law enforcement, and the civilian market over the last 40 years is undeniable. The P226 was actually a variant of the first successful handgun marketed in the United States, the P220, initially marketed by Browning as the Browning BDA. The P220 was a refinement of the Petter-Browning design that was in the SIG P210, which ironically won the first IPSC World Championship in 1975.
The first introduction of the SIG Sauer XFive was in 2010. It was built as a single-action version of the SIG Sauer P226, but on a heavy stainless frame with a longer dust cover that was much thicker than the standard 226. The gun was designed to be an extremely accurate heavyweight target and competition pistol. It is a competition-only variant of the SIG Sauer P226 with a 5" slide and barrel, beavertail grip, factory-tuned single-action trigger, ergonomic wood Nill grips with beavertail, ambidextrous thumb safety, stainless slide and frame with magwell, and an adjustable rear target sight. Intended for IPSC Wa1500, bullseye, and other centrefire competitive shooting, the X-Five is hand-fitted and assembled in Germany. Its resulting accuracy accordingly rivals the SIG Sauer P210. The original SIG Sauer XFive was only manufactured until 2012 and is difficult to obtain.
