In 2011, to mark the 100th anniversary of John Browning’s legendary design, Colt’s Custom Shop released a special run of WWI Replica 100-Year Anniversary Commercial Government Models. These pistols were carefully crafted to replicate the look, feel, and handling of Colt’s early commercial M1911s while blending modern precision with historical authenticity. Built on a full-size Government Model frame, they featured the same classic flat mainspring housing, long trigger, short, wide spur hammer, and high-polish blue finish reminiscent of pre-WWI production. The slide carried the original-style rollmarks, including the “1911–2011” centennial designation, further anchoring the pistol as both a faithful homage and a collector’s piece. Unlike standard production models, these anniversary editions were manufactured through Colt’s Custom Shop with enhanced attention to detail, making them both functional sidearms and commemorative works of craftsmanship. This example will ship with the French fitted, red velvet-lined walnut presentation cases with glass top, Original Blue Colt custom shop box, the factory-labeled matching outer sleeve, the cardboard gun box (reintroduction of the military packaging used to ship military Colt 1911s from the factory), paperwork including the manual, a safety lock, and all other contents pictured above!
