Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this LIMITED EDITION semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt Series 70 Government “Glahn” TALO Distributor Exclusive!

The Colt GLAHN Series 70 is a highly limited production pistol, with only 300 examples made, each falling within the exclusive serial number range of 1070A1T0001 to 1070A1T0300. Built on the iconic Government Model Series 70 platform in .45 ACP with a 5-inch barrel, this brushed stainless steel pistol was designed to pay tribute to legendary Colt engraver Wilbur A. Glahn. Known for his influence on American firearms artistry, Glahn’s work inspired the detailed embellishments found on this special edition, including bead-blasted and antiqued finishes, Glahn-style patterns, and finely polished controls that elevate both form and function.

In keeping with its tribute theme, the Colt GLAHN Series 70 features a frame etched in classic Glahn-style elements, paired with unique ivory-lite checkered grips that emulate the period designs Glahn himself often used, now updated with the iconic serpentine Colt logo. This collector-grade pistol is not only a functional Government Model .45 but also a celebration of Glahn’s enduring influence on Colt’s legacy of engraved firearms. With its limited production, serialized exclusivity, and striking craftsmanship, the GLAHN Series 70 stands as both a shooter’s sidearm and a historical homage for discerning Colt collectors.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Series 70 Government is one of the most iconic variants in the storied history of the Colt 1911 platform, representing a transitional era in Colt’s manufacturing while retaining the timeless features of John Browning’s legendary design. Produced originally from 1970 through 1983 and later reintroduced due to popular demand, the Series 70 was designed to modernize the 1911 without straying too far from its traditional roots. Chambered in .45 ACP, it features a 5-inch barrel, steel frame and slide, and Colt’s characteristic blued or stainless finishes. The defining mechanical distinction of the Series 70 lies in its use of the “Collet” style barrel bushing, a four-fingered spring steel bushing intended to enhance lock-up consistency and improve accuracy without the need for hand-fitting. While some criticized this bushing design for durability issues under heavy use, it nonetheless showcased Colt’s willingness to experiment with new engineering solutions during a time of fierce competition in the handgun market. The pistol also omitted the firing pin safety system that would later define the Series 80, leaving purists with what many consider a “cleaner” and more traditional trigger pull. In practice, the Series 70 Government quickly became a favorite among competitive shooters, law enforcement professionals, and military veterans who wanted a civilian sidearm with classic lines and reliable performance. Its simple single-action operation, combined with Colt’s distinctive fit and finish, reinforced the 1911’s reputation for durability and precision. Collectors today often regard the original production Series 70s as highly desirable, particularly in pristine condition with all original parts, while modern reissues appeal to shooters who want the look and feel of the classic without the wear of an older model. The lack of a firing pin block and the use of the collet bushing make it stand out mechanically from other Colt offerings, giving it a unique place in the lineage of the 1911. More than just another iteration, the Series 70 Government is seen as a bridge between Colt’s traditional craftsmanship and its efforts to adapt the 1911 design to evolving shooter expectations, ensuring its lasting status as one of the most celebrated versions of the Government Model ever produced.
