Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Beretta Cheetah series, also known as the 80 Series, is a line of compact, semi-automatic pistols introduced in 1976 by the Italian manufacturer Beretta for personal defense and law enforcement. Renowned for their reliability, precise engineering, and ergonomic handling, the series includes multiple calibers and models: .32 ACP Models 81 and 82, featuring a rounded trigger guard and alloy frame; .380 ACP / 9mm Short Models 83–86, with the 83 and 84 designed for concealed carry and the 85 and 86 offering slightly longer barrels for improved accuracy; and .22 LR Models 87, 87 Target, and 89, intended for target shooting and training. Over its production history, Beretta introduced several iterations to enhance safety and performance: the original base models had standard safety mechanisms; B versions added automatic firing pin safeties, shorter exctractors and grooved front/back straps; BB versions included additional slide serrations and white-dot sights; F models (“Federale”) introduced a squared trigger guard, plastic grips, Bruniton finish, and combination safety/decocker lever inspired by the Beretta 92F; and FS models refined the decocker mechanism to prevent sticking in a half-position. Celebrated for their smooth double-action/single-action triggers, slim profiles, and consistent accuracy, the Cheetah pistols remain popular among concealed carry enthusiasts, law enforcement, and collectors alike.
