Bryant Ridge Auction Company is pleased to present this LIMITED EDITION Lipsey's Exclusive single-action revolver today for a penny start auction; this is the Ruger New Bearcat Shopkeeper!
The Bearcat Shopkeeper was a gun that had been in development for several years. According to Lipsey's website, it all started with a visit to one of their biggest and most loyal dealers in Alabama. While talking to one of their store managers, who is a true sixgun connoisseur, he mentioned his Bearcat he had sent off for some custom work just showed up and wanted to know if Lipsey's would like to see it. Naturally, whatever else they were talking about was put on hold until they could check it out properly. He showed them a beautiful little 3" barreled Ruger Bearcat that they just couldn’t put down. They both agreed a Shopkeeper version would make for a great Lipsey’s Exclusive and after talking to Ruger, they agreed to take a look at it.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger Bearcat Single-Action Revolver is a reliable and safe sidearm to take along on outdoor adventures. Its compact size and lightweight design make it easy to carry in a daypack, tackle box, pocket, or hip holster. The grip size and wide spur hammer placement make it user-friendly for most adult-sized hands. The Bearcat uses Ruger's patented Transfer Bar mechanism, which provides a block between the hammer and firing pin until the hammer is fully cocked and the trigger is pulled. This ensures that the revolver will not fire accidentally, making it a great sidearm to use in rough country. The cylinder, grip frame, cylinder, and barrel are made with solid, blued steel. The Ruger Bearcat comes with a fixed blade front sight and an integral notch rear sight that facilitate drawing the sidearm. The sights are designed to withstand hard outdoor use and remain aligned. The Bearcat's design is reminiscent of the old Remington revolvers of the nineteenth century and offers both functionality and attractive looks.
One feature that stuck in their heads was the regular square butt on the standard model with the shorter barrel reminded them of the old S&W J-Frames that had 2" barrels and square butts. They just didn’t look quite right. So they went out on a limb and asked Ruger if they could produce a round butt or bird's head type frame to go along with the 3" barrel. In addition to the 3" barrel and bird's head grip frame, they had to use a couple of other unique features to make it all work. Due to the short barrel, Ruger had to use a “button head” cylinder pin and a crescent-shaped ejector rod so that the spent cases could easily be extracted from the cylinder. They also used a steel ejector rod housing that matches the rest of the gun, which, in their opinion, looks better than the aluminum one used on the standard Bearcats.
"This is one of those guns that once you put it in your hands, you will have to get one." – Jason Cloessner (Lipsey’s)
