The Strike One pistol emerged around 2011 as a joint effort between Nicola Bandini and Dimitry Streshinskiy, intended to replace the Makarov for Russian police forces. By 2014, it was advancing successfully through testing and evaluation and had attracted some international attention. However, this momentum reportedly stalled when bribery negotiations fell apart, leading to the pistol’s removal from official Russian consideration. The company behind the design—Arsenal Firearms, based in Italy—shifted focus to the international commercial market, ultimately releasing the pistol in both the U.S. and Europe. Since then, it has undergone multiple iterations and import changes, and is currently produced concurrently as the Arsenal Strike One in Italy and the Archon Type B in the Czech Republic.

Mechanically, the pistol stands out for its non-Browning operating system. It utilizes a short-recoil action with a vertically moving locking block—functionally similar to, though independently developed from, the Bergmann 1910. This mechanism contributes to its exceptionally low bore axis, and its fire control components are likewise unconventionally engineered to support this design goal.
