Sharps Rifles were renowned for their quality and long-range accuracy, capable of reaching out to 1,000 yards or more. 1874 was a particularly good year for Sharps rifles, and was available in a variety of loadings and barrel lengths.
There are various new series of guns available, created by skilled craftsmen who either acted on their own initiative or at the request of customers. These custom works improve the rifles mechanically, adding new Creedmoor sights, or enhancing the aesthetics of the rifle with inlays, engravings, or customized work to the stock. The inspiration for the new 1874 Sharps Old West rifle comes from Henry Slotterbeck, a gunsmith from Württemberg who emigrated to the States in the mid-1800s. After working for Henry Deringer in Philadelphia for a number of years, he went on to found Slotter & Co. The stock of the rifle is furnished with brass parts for both the “Walnut” and "Maple" versions. On the right side of the butt stock is a plate that can be personalized with an engraving of one's choice. The forend of the rifle features wedge plates and the pistol grip cap is composed of case-hardened steel.
