The Uberti 1861 Navy revolver is a faithful reproduction of one of the most elegant and iconic percussion sidearms of the Civil War era. Originally designed by Colt as a streamlined refinement of the earlier 1851 Navy, the 1861 model borrowed the round barrel and sleek lines of the 1860 Army while retaining the .36 caliber chambering and naval battle cylinder scene that honored the clash between the Texas and Mexican navies. With its 7 1/2-inch barrel and improved loading lever geometry, the 1861 Navy was praised for its balance, accuracy, and smooth handling—qualities that earned it favor on both land and sea during the War Between the States and across the Western frontier in the years that followed. Though only 38,843 originals were produced between 1861 and 1873, the revolver was carried by notable figures such as General George Custer and U.S. Marshal A. Cutler of New Mexico. Uberti’s reproduction captures the spirit and function of the original while delivering modern craftsmanship and reliability.
