The Sig X-Series pistols have been available since around 2006 when they were introduced by the Sig Sauer Mastershop in Germany. The Mastershop was established shortly after regular production of Sigs moved manufacturing to Exeter, New Hampshire. These pistols were mostly hand-built to ensure high levels of quality and attention to detail. Skilled craftsmen made sure they stood out from anything Sig was producing in the United States. The original Mastershop pistols were the Sig Sport variants, introduced 15-20 years ago and built on a very limited basis. They were all discontinued when the X-Series was introduced. After about five years of production, the X-Series evolved into the second generation with a reshaped slide, a prominent rollmark, and an accessory rail. Personally, I prefer the first run. Around 2010, the Mastershop introduced the Legend P210, which remained in production for a few years. Nowadays, all the Mastershop pistols are either discontinued or unable to be imported into the USA.
The X-Five line comprised most of the X-Series pistols. It included models like the Competition, Lightweight, Allround, and the top-of-the-line X-Five L1. There was also a rarely-seen model called the X-Five Short and Smart. Despite being called an X-Five, this gun doesn't have a 5” barrel like the others. Instead, the Short and Smart model has a barrel length similar to the standard Sig at just under 4.5”. This variation wasn't available for long and is now a rare sight. The good thing is that it's built to the same basic specs as the L1 model and has the same outstanding fully adjustable SAO trigger. Unlike the X-Five L1, the Short and Smart were only available in 9mm. Additionally, the Short and Smart come with the standard Sig extractor rather than the extractor on the longer X-Fives.
