The SIG Sauer M17 and M18 are service pistols used by the United States Armed Forces. In 2017, the Army announced that a customized version of SIG Sauer's pistol had won the Army's XM17 Modular Handgun System competition. The full-sized model is called the M17, and the shorter-length carry model is the M18. These guns have been adopted by the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Space Force. However, the Coast Guard will not be receiving the M17 and M18; instead, they will be replacing their SIG Sauer pistol with the Glock 19 Gen5 MOS. The M17 and M18 will replace the Beretta M9 and several other handguns across five of the six service branches. Both the M17 and M18 come in coyote tan and black variants, although the majority have been produced in coyote tan.
The next generation of the M17 is here, offering the same performance and reliability that made the M17 the preferred choice of the U.S. Military. The new M17X is equipped with advanced features from the X series of pistols. It includes a factory-mounted ROMEO-M17 red dot optic with ruggedized aluminum housing and an aspheric glass lens for zero distortion. The optic is fully enclosed and sealed for ultimate protection from the elements. Additionally, this pistol features a coyote tan grip module with an extended beavertail, aggressive grip stippling, and deeper undercuts for improved control. The X Grip Module also has a magwell extension for faster and more accurate reloads, and the X Flat Blade Trigger provides increased tactile response for greater accuracy.
