Colt has been revitalizing its iconic "snake gun" lineup in recent years, and the newly reintroduced Viper for 2024 is a prime example of this evolution. Unlike the original Vipers from the late 1970s and early 1980s, the newest model boasts significant upgrades that enhance its versatility and durability. The new Colt Viper features a robust stainless-steel frame, replacing the aluminum frame of its predecessor. Gone is the ventilated top rib found on the Python and Anaconda, along with the fully adjustable target sight. Instead, the Viper comes equipped with a simple ramped front sight, easily viewed through a trough in the frame rib, akin to other classic carry revolvers. Colt also retained the original Viper's aesthetic by incorporating a half-length underlug that conceals the ejector rod, while the hammer spur has been narrowed to reduce snag points. The new Viper is finished with a slim set of classic square-butt walnut grips, enhancing its carry-ready profile. Additionally, it incorporates features from the second-generation Python, including an enlarged trigger guard and a reinforced top strap for added strength. The Viper is available in two barrel lengths: a 3-inch model for easier concealment and a 4.25-inch version for those preferring a longer sight radius. This combination of classic design and modern upgrades makes the 2024 Colt Viper a compelling choice for revolver enthusiasts.
