The AMT Government 5" .45 ACP is AMT’s stainless-steel, 1911-pattern take on the classic Government-length single-action — essentially a full-size, target-oriented 1911 built around a five-inch barrel that gives a long sight radius, added dwell for marginally higher muzzle velocity, and a steadier sight picture for precise slow-fire work. Machined from stainless components (slide and frame), the AMT Government typically presents the familiar 1911 controls — thumb safety, grip safety, slide stop and magazine release — coupled with a flat mainspring housing or beavertail tang for a high, locked-in grip; magazines are standard single-stack .45 types (flush capacity usually in the 7–8 round range), and sighting is often a tall fixed or adjustable target rear with a pronounced front blade to exploit the extra sight radius.
