The IAI Javelina pistols are largely inspired by Colt's iconic 1911 design, incorporating many of its signature features, such as the flat, serrated mainspring housing, left-side slide stop, thumb safety, and grip safety. However, the Javelina takes it a step further with enhancements like a rear adjustable sight and a skeletonized trigger that offers over-travel adjustment. The 10mm cartridge, developed by Col. Jeff Cooper, was designed to offer more power and a flatter trajectory than the .45 ACP, making it a favored choice for rural law enforcement, personal defense, and hunting. Though it was once on the verge of obsolescence, primarily popular among hand-loaders and those who enjoyed the recoil, it was revitalized by the FBI’s request and has since gained a loyal following among enthusiasts of both the 1911 platform and the 10mm cartridge.
