From the gold fields of California to the border conflicts of “Bleeding Kansas,” its reputation for balance, reliability, and practical accuracy made it a trusted companion. Favored by cavalrymen on both sides of the Civil War, the Navy was also famously carried by frontier legends like John Wesley Hardin, Wild Bill Hickok, the James-Younger Gang, and Pawnee scouts. With nearly 250,000 produced before production ceased in 1873, few firearms did more to shape the mythos of the Old West.
