Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
This PARKHURST shotgun is a Belgian made "Trade Brand Name" shotgun. We can see the Belgian proof mark consisting of the letters "ELG" in an oval in the photograph. A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major maker (and before 1940) for and was sold by a wholesale sporting goods dealer, a retail chain store oran independent seller (your local hardware store) who chose the name to go on the gun. Guns with the name PARKHURST were made by either Somonis, Janssen & Dumoulin if Belgian made like this one or J.P. Clabough & Bros if English made, proof marks consisting of either crossed scepters or crossed halberds with letters in the intersections and a crown over that. By 1906 only Belgian made. The gun was made for and imported by Schoverling, Daley & Gales, an imported and wholesale sporting goods dealer located in New York Cit from 1873 to 1940. Between about 1880 to 1914 when World War One cut off exports from Europe, thousands if not hundreds of thousands of inexpensive shotguns were imported into the United States from Europe primarily Belgium and England.
