The Beretta 8040 is a semi-automatic, recoil-operated, DA/SA pistol chambered in .40 S&W that was introduced by Beretta as a version of the famous model 8000. The pistol has a smart and intuitive design with unique features, it is fit for the concealed carry choice as it has a frame made of a light aluminium alloy. The magazine is released by a button placed on the left side of the grip, the slide and barrel are made of carbon steel or stainless steel. The hammer has a half-cock safety system These were completely made of steel, including the frame and other parts. One specific feature of this model is definitely the 'tip-up' barrel. The barrel pivots, were designed under the muzzle so the chamber can be easily loaded with the slide in the closed position. It makes better and simplifies loading, unloading and checking load status, as the slide is quite difficult to retract by hand. The 8040 was designed without any extractor. It is relying just on blowback inertia in order to remove fired cases from the chamber. It can make it mainly sensitive to choice of ammunition to permit dependable operation
