Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this outstanding semi-automatic pistol today for a penny-start auction, this is the Beretta 92SB!

This particular Beretta 92SB bears the “G.F.” marking, indicating it was issued to Italy’s Guardia di Finanza—the national military police force responsible for customs enforcement and financial crime investigations. These service-issued pistols were stamped with the official “G.F.” mark just below the serial number, distinguishing them from standard commercial models. Today, examples with this provenance are especially prized by collectors due to their relative rarity, historical authenticity, and direct ties to both military and law enforcement use.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Beretta 92SB represents a pivotal stage in the evolution of the 92 series, bridging the original 92 and the military-adopted 92F/M9. Introduced in the late 1970s, the 92SB was developed to meet increasingly strict NATO and U.S. military safety requirements. It incorporated a slide-mounted ambidextrous safety/decocker, a passive firing pin block, and retained Beretta’s signature open-slide design, which enhanced reliability by reducing the risk of stove-pipes and other cycling issues. The pistol was chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, featured a double/single-action trigger system, and came with a double-stack magazine, offering 15-round capacity. During the early 1980s, the 92SB was submitted to the U.S. military’s Joint Service Small Arms Program (JSSAP) trials, intended to find a NATO-standardized sidearm to replace the aging M1911A1. While the 92SB performed well in these tests, the U.S. requested a more modified design with new refinements, which led to the development of a transitional variant, often referred to as the 92SB-F, which became the foundation for the 92F.

Adding to the model’s historical significance, 92SB pistols were issued to Italy’s Guardia di Finanza, the national military police force specializing in financial crime and customs enforcement. These pistols were marked with the official Guardia di Finanza “G.F.” stamp just below the serial number, and today, such examples are highly sought after by collectors for their rarity, unique provenance, and connection to both military and law enforcement service. The 92SB thus occupies a fascinating niche in firearm history, as both a technical milestone and a direct predecessor to one of the most iconic service pistols of the modern era.
