The Beretta pistol, also known as Modello 1951, was developed by Pietro Beretta S.p.A. of Italy during the late 1940s and early 1950s. It was specifically designed for military use and served as a replacement for the Modello 1934 pistol. The Modello 1951 was chambered for the 9x19mm cartridge and was the first locked-breech handgun design produced by Beretta. It was a single-action pistol with a single-stack 8-round magazine. The safety feature was a push-button located at the top rear of the grip panel, and the magazine release was at the bottom rear. The pistol was produced in blued steel and matte-finish aluminum frames and was referred to by several names, including Beretta 951, MOD.51, Model 1951, and Brigadier. All models in this family shared the same specifications, with the only variation being the frame material.
