Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Beretta Model 20 is a compact tip-up-barrel pocket pistol chambered in .25 ACP (6.35 mm), introduced in 1967 as an evolution of Beretta’s small-pistol line. Built around a simple blowback action with a double-action trigger, it combined an alloy frame with a steel slide and barrel, fixed sights, and an 8-round detachable magazine—features that made it a highly concealable backup arm. Its short 2 1/2-inch barrel gave it a snappy recoil impulse, making rapid follow-up shots more challenging. Internally, the Model 20 advanced on earlier Beretta pocket pistols by using heavier pivoting trigger arms and nearly vertical coil springs housed in frame tubes, replacing the older torsion-wire spring system. It retained key safety elements such as a hammer rest and manual lever, while its tip-up barrel allowed for easy chamber checks and simplified loading, especially for shooters who found slide manipulation difficult.

While production was centered in Italy, a small U.S.-made run was introduced in 1983 at Beretta’s Accokeek, Maryland facility, lasting only until the pistol’s overall discontinuation in 1985. The American-made models were produced between a two-to-three-year window. With total production spanning 1967 to 1985, the Model 20 was ultimately succeeded in its role by the Beretta 21A “Bobcat,” which entered U.S. production in the mid-1980s.
