Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Beretta S57E “Ruby Snipe” is a refined example of mid-20th-century Italian gunmaking, blending Beretta’s traditional craftsmanship with the efficiency of postwar production advancements. Introduced around 1955 and manufactured until approximately 1967, the S57E stood at the top of Beretta’s S-series—above the S55 and S56—and served as a bridge between Beretta’s bespoke sidelock models like the ASE/S1 and more accessible field-grade guns. Chambered in both 12 and 20 gauge with barrel lengths ranging from 26? to 30?, the S57E featured high-end appointments for its class: a single selective trigger, automatic ejectors, and finely hand-engraved rose-and-scroll motifs on a satin-finished receiver. The shotgun’s over/under break-action, paired with elegant blued barrels and a checkered walnut stock, made it both visually striking and highly functional. Its well-balanced frame—about 7¼ lbs for a 12-gauge with 28 barrels—offered quick handling and smooth swing dynamics, making it a formidable competitor to contemporaries like the Browning Superposed in both field and clay shooting contexts. Notably, this particular example includes an extra 28? 12-gauge barrel set, enhancing its versatility and value for shooters who prefer different choke or load setups.
