The AR500 is an AR rifle that stands out from the rest. It is chambered in 500 Auto Max, which makes it the most powerful AR firearm available. We were unsatisfied with the available big-bore cartridge options for the AR platform, so we decided to create our own. We wanted something that could match the power and versatility of our Model 89 Lever Action in 500 Smith & Wesson Magnum. As a result, we developed the 500 Auto Max, a rimless 500 S&W magnum designed to feed into a semi-automatic rifle. Our innovative AR design and the big bore 500 Auto Max cartridge combine to make a rifle that is both powerful and easy to shoot. This rifle is versatile and can handle almost any situation with its size, familiar manual-of-arms, available accessories, and energy on target.
The 500 Auto Max is a rimless cartridge based on the 500 S&W Magnum that is easy to obtain or reload. This cartridge is highly versatile and can be found in loaded ammunition with bullet weights ranging from 350grns to 600grns. Additionally, the hand loader can choose from bullets weighing between 275grns to 700grns in almost any bullet type, such as hard cast, jacketed hollow points, monolithic solids, and more. With this unprecedented range of bullet weight and design, the AR500 is suitable for hunting anything from prairie dogs to pachyderms to even stopping a truck. All of this power is packed into a platform that weighs less than 10 pounds.

In 2003, the engineers and gunsmiths at Smith & Wesson sought to create a powerful handgun catering to serious hunters. To achieve this goal, they designed a new frame, known as the "X-Frame™," which served as the foundation for the Model S&W 500™ - the world's most powerful production revolver. Performance Center guns are either based on standard designs or created from scratch. These firearms are crafted precisely, from hand-cutting and fitting to fine-tuning, making them top performers. The products from the Performance Center are the perfect combination of old-world craftsmanship and modern technology.
