Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The FN Browning is a semi-automatic pistol that was designed by John Browning for Fabrique Nationale de Herstal (FN) around 1896. It was produced in Belgium at the start of the 20th century and was the first production handgun to use a slide.

John Browning presented the design to FN Herstal in 1897, and the production began the following year under the name Modele 1899. Later on, in 1900, an improved version of the pistol was introduced. It featured a shorter barrel and wider grips and was marketed as the FN Browning. These names were assigned retroactively by FN after they began producing other Browning pistol designs. Initially, the pistol was marketed as simply the "Pistolet Browning" (Browning Pistol). Production of the FN Browning ceased after only 11 years, during which time approximately 700,000+ units were produced.
