The Charter Arms Undercover .38 Special, in its classic 2-inch blue finish, is a quintessential compact revolver engineered for serious concealed carry—a design that strikes a careful balance between lightweight practicality, adequate stopping power, and rugged simplicity. Built on a one-piece steel frame (no side plate) that boosts strength, the Undercover holds five rounds of .38 Special and weighs in at only around 14 oz in its aluminum-alloy/steel variant. Its hammerless-style, rounded design helps prevent snagging, and its short barrel makes it easy to stow while still offering a useable, although modest, sight radius with a fixed front sight and notch rear. Mechanically, the Undercover uses a transfer-bar safety system that only allows the gun to fire when the trigger is fully depressed—an early safety feature that predated many of today’s modern designs.
