The Chinese SKS is a semi-automatic military rifle developed as a licensed and later domestically produced version of the Soviet Simonov SKS-45, chambered in 7.62×39mm. Manufactured primarily at state arsenals such as Factory 26 beginning in the mid-1950s, the Chinese SKS—often designated the Type 56—became one of the most widely produced variants of the SKS family.
