Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt 3rd Generation Signature Series represents the final chapter in Colt’s production of traditional percussion revolvers, manufactured from 1994 to 2002 through a partnership between Colt Blackpowder Arms Co. and Colt’s Manufacturing. These revolvers closely replicate the original 19th-century designs but were produced using modern machining, improved metallurgy, and updated quality control. Each model bears the laser-engraved signature of Samuel Colt on the backstrap—hence the “Signature Series” name—distinguishing them from both the 1st and 2nd Generation Colt percussion revolvers. Offered in a wide range of historical models such as the 1851 Navy, 1860 Army, 1861 Navy, and various Dragoons and Walkers, the series is appreciated for its blend of authenticity, craftsmanship, and collectability.

Among the most desirable pieces in the line is the 1862 Pocket Navy, Colt’s elegant, scaled-down .36-caliber percussion revolver originally produced from 1861 to 1873. The 3rd Generation version faithfully replicates the compact frame, fluted cylinder, and refined lines that made the original a favorite civilian sidearm during the Civil War era. Collectors value the Signature Series 1862 Pocket Navy for its limited production, high fit and finish, and its place as one of the last factory-authorized reproductions of Colt’s classic cap-and-ball designs. As the entire Signature Series has been out of production for more than two decades, interest and collector appreciation continue to rise, especially for pristine, cased, or less commonly encountered models like the 1862 Pocket Navy.
