The Colt Commander is a semi-automatic handgun that was based on the John M. Browning–designed Model 1911. It was the first mass-produced American pistol with a aluminium alloy frame and the first Colt pistol to be chambered in 9mm Parabellum. Colt manufactured several different variations of the Commander and was offered in .45 ACP and .38 Super chamberings. One of the Colt commander variants was introduced with a all-steel frame "Colt Combat Commander", with an optional model in a satin nickel finish.
