With his cowboy attire, Elvis cuts the dashing figure of a Western hero. The artistic combination of nickel with a special blackened patinaed highlights gives the portrait an incredible, three-dimensional quality. Each turn of the cylinder reveals additional images of the superstar entertainer from different angles. Between the portraits are images of guitars, which figured so prominently in Elvis Presley’s musical hits. Beneath the portraits and guitars are musical notes, symbolizing Elvis’ love of music and reflecting Elvis’ significant role in music history. Located on the frame below the recoil shield is the “TCB” logo Elvis Presley adopted and shared with his closest friends. Together with a lightning bolt, the logo stands for “Taking Care of Business in a Flash.” Both sides of the barrel feature the legend, “Elvis Presley Western Tribute”, fashioned in a nostalgic Western font. Also, the back strap has additional scrollwork and is an authentic recreation of Elvis Presley’s signature. The back strap also features a guitar in front of the Gates of Graceland, Elvis’ beloved home.
Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
He defined American pop culture for an entire generation, with hit after hit dominating the charts and his live concert performances packed with delirious fans. Yet, despite his meteoric rise to stardom, Elvis longed to realize his boyhood dream of being a matinee idol. It didn't take long for Hollywood filmmakers to recognize Elvis' musical talent, good looks, charisma, and, more importantly, his silver screen potential. In 1956, the twenty-one-year-old Elvis was selected by Twentieth Century-Fox to star in the first of his 33 motion pictures, and a Westom film to be called "The Reno Brothers." So impressed were the studio executives by the classic ballad Elvis performed for the soundtrack the film was renamed “Love Me Tender." Barely two years after making his first recordings at Memphis' Sun Studio, Elvis was a box office smash. "Love Me Tender" premiered in late 1956 at New York's Paramount Theatre, where the assembled press and throngs of fans held court outside the theatre, hoping for a glimpse of America's new superstar. The film debuted in the number two position at the box office, earning its cost back in only a few days. Elvis later starred in two more Western films, "Flaming Star" and “Charro!,” thought by many to be highlights of his film career. His unique brand of music, a blend of gospel, blues, and country-western styles, guaranteed his movies would be popular with millions of fans worldwide.
