Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt CRX-16 Competition Marksman is a rare, discontinued, and limited-release AR-platform rifle that has become highly sought after due to its enhanced performance features and its short production run. Built under Colt license by NCHC in Texas, the CRX-16 was engineered from the ground up as a competition-ready rifle, incorporating a match-grade, air-gaged 4140 chrome-moly steel barrel with a manganese-phosphate finish and a 1:8" twist optimized for 50–77 grain bullets. This versatile barrel, paired with a direct-impingement gas system, ensures excellent accuracy and reliability with both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO ammunition. The Colt Competition twin-port muzzle brake further enhances shootability by reducing recoil and muzzle rise, allowing faster follow-up shots. A nickel-Teflon-coated match trigger provides a crisp ~6-lb break, while the forged upper and lower receivers, matched bolt and carrier, and H-buffer contribute to the rifle’s consistent performance and overall refinement.

The rifle’s ergonomics and modularity also reflect its competition-focused design. Its 12-inch vented modular float-tube handguard free-floats the barrel for maximum precision and provides multiple Picatinny rail mounting options, including a 5.5-inch top rail on the handguard and a full 13-slot flat-top receiver rail for optics. The extended tactical charging handle, enlarged Magpul trigger guard, Hogue grip, and 4-position carbine stock create a comfortable and highly functional shooting platform. Together, these features make the CRX-16 a standout rifle that blends Colt heritage with precision-oriented enhancements. With its discontinued status and limited availability, the CRX-16 has gained a reputation not only as a capable competition rifle but also as a desirable collectible for shooters who appreciate high-grade, purpose-built AR variants.
