This Custom M1991A1, along with a Para Ordnance Hi-Cap pistol live on Gunbroker, are part of a two-piece set that commemorates the JSS Loyalty, also referred to by CNN as the deadliest day for U.S. troops in Iraq since 2009. On June 6, 2011, five individuals were killed instantly in an IRAM (Improvised Rocket-Assisted Mortar) attack. Three more succumbed to their injuries within two weeks of the attack, and fifty-one others were wounded. Tragically, eighteen suicides have occurred since that day. During the attack, four soldiers on overwatch, positioned within 75 yards of an IRAM equipped with twelve separate IRAMs, managed to deliver enough small arms fire to disable one of the IRAMs. This disabled IRAM launched and struck JSS Loyalty but failed to detonate amidst the living quarters. Instead, it detonated eight IRAMs on the launcher, each armed with 300 pounds of C-4 explosive. All four soldiers on overwatch were wounded by the explosion, with the injuries being particularly severe for some. The three IRAMs that penetrated the base caused immediate fatalities for five individuals and wounded fifty-one more in just 35 seconds. JSS Loyalty, covering an area of 0.61 square miles and hosting only 150 personnel, was a close-knit environment where each member knew one another intimately. The oldest of the killed-in-action was only 21 years old. According to the owner of these guns, “This incident marked the end of my combat duty assignment in Southwest Asia, concluding a service of 1,460 days across Iraq and Afghanistan with 22 different military units.”
Also, according to the owner, “The 1/17 FA from the 3rd Infantry Division was relieved by the 1/7 FA of the 1st Infantry Division. The 1/7 FA was stationed at the location on the day of a major attack. During the time the 1/17 FA was there, they frequently experienced indirect fire in Sadr City, a place CNN has labeled as the most dangerous in the world. Anyone who served there, or anywhere else in Iraq, will attest to the harsh conditions at Joint Service Station (JSS) Loyalty, where U.S. forces trained Iraqi military and police. There are approximately eight pistols from the 1/7 FA and twelve pistols from the 1/17 FA that were issued during their deployments. These pistols were acquired specifically for duty assignments at JSS Loyalty.”
