This consecutive serial-numbered set of Colt Lord Derringers is a remarkable example of Colt's reissued Fourth Model Derringer, designed in response to the popularity of television westerns in the 1950s and '60s. These single-shot pistols are chambered in .22 Short and are ideal for collectors due to their historical significance and limited production. The Lord Derringer features a distinctive gold-plated frame with a black oxide-coated barrel, paired with smooth walnut grips that enhance its aesthetic appeal. The set includes two pistols, each marked with consecutive serial numbers, making them an even more unique find for collectors. The Lord Derringer was designed as part of a "Lord & Lady" set, with the Lady Derringer featuring gold plating on both the frame and barrel, as well as faux pearl grips. The Lord model, with its gold-plated frame and black barrel, offered a more masculine aesthetic compared to the Lady version. Both guns utilized the same loading mechanism: placing the hammer on half-cock and pivoting the barrel to the right, which both loaded the cartridge and ejected the spent case. Produced by Butler of New Haven, Conn., for Colt, these Derringers were primarily intended for display, and the matching set adds an extra layer of prestige to the collection, blending Colt’s legacy with the cultural influence of mid-20th century American television.
