Bryant Ridge Auction Company is pleased to present this MUSEUM GRADE set of single action army revolvers today for auction, this is the Colt Frontier Scout Single Action Army Set of 12 "Kansas Series" Revolvers!
According to our research there were only 3 of these Crate Sets ever made. This set could possibly be the only the only set still in existance!!!
Also included is the original black leather bound commemorative crate with three velvet lined drawers, each of which holds four of the twelve revolvers. The top of the crate features, in white, a map of Kansas emblazoned with "KANSAS SERIES" and marked with the locations that each of these revolvers commemorate, along with small logos in each corner representing the fort series, cow town series, trail series, and a small Colt logo. The front of the crate which opens to reveal the drawers features "KANSAS SERIES", "COW TOWNS", "FORTS", and "TRAILS" all in white lettering. Each drawer is similarly labeled to represent each of the three sub-series. Along with 12 factory presentation lined wood cases marked for each individual gun.
All are serial numbered "17" with their respective commemorative Prefix and suffix. The first of the case holds guns "A"-"D" and is the "Forts" collection, the second case holds guns "E"-"H" and is the "Trails" collection, and the third case holds guns "I"-"L" and is the "Cow Towns" collection.

In 1956, Colt brought back their Single-Action Army from a 15-year hiatus. This second outing of the world’s most admired revolver was pretty expensive retailing for around $125 (roughly $1215 today). The 1940s and 1950s were filled with western movies and stories coming back to life and being imprinted into the American psyche. Fathers who yearned to be cowboys since their youth wanted to buy their sons an example to enjoy.
The Colt Frontier Scout was born in 1957 and was scaled down slightly and was lighter than its bigger bore brother. The year 1960 brought 22 WMR models to the market. The first iteration of the Frontier Scout would go on to hit the manufactured mark of about 246,000 and eventually 358,000 total including its variations. The Colt Single-Action Frontier Scout 22LR was made until 1970 when Colt carried on with their Peacemaker 22 and a “New Frontier Scout”.
This is quite a set! A complete Colt Kansas Series set of twelve Frontier Scout .22 revolvers, four each in the Kansas Cow Town, Trail, and Fort sub-series. The revolvers each have an individual mix of gold, silver, and black/blue finishes and wood, faux-ivory, faux-pearl or checkered synthetic grips. All 12 of the revolvers in this set were limited to a production of 500. All are numbered "17" with their respective commemorative suffix. Sets such as this rarely surface on todays open market and are getting harder and harder to find!
