Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The K5/DP51 series, also known as the Daewoo Precision Industries K5, is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9x19mm, produced by SNT Motiv (formerly S&T Daewoo) in South Korea. Introduced in 1989, this pistol features a conventional Browning-type locking system and operates via recoil, primarily serving commissioned officers in the South Korean military. The K5 is compact and lightweight, constructed with a frame made of forged 7075-T6 aluminum alloy and a slide crafted from forged 4140 steel, both finished with a matte surface. The 4.1-inch barrel, made from forged 4150 steel, features six grooves with a right twist. One of the standout features of the K5 is its unique "fast action" trigger mechanism, allowing users to decock the hammer while keeping the mainspring compressed. This system, also known as Triple Action or Double Action Plus+, blends double-action trigger travel with the lighter trigger weight of single-action mode, ensuring a more accurate first shot while enhancing safety through longer trigger travel. The pistol can also be fired in traditional double and single-action modes.

The DP51 variant comes in full-size and compact versions, with double-column magazines holding 13 or 15 rounds for the full-size and 10 rounds for the compact. While Smith & Wesson 59-series magazines are compatible, they do protrude slightly. The magazine release is a push-button type, and the pistol is equipped with three-dot iron sights. Safety features include an ambidextrous external safety and a passive firing pin block that prevents the firing pin from moving forward unless the trigger is pulled. The handgrip panels are a single-piece polymer design. From the early to late 1990s, various importers, including FirstShot, Inc., Kimber of America, B-West Imports, and Davidson’s, marketed the K5 in the United States. The primary version was the DP51, with a compact variant known as the DP51C and a .40 S&W version called the DH40.
