Introduced in 1989 and manufactured by SNT Motiv (formerly S&T Daewoo), the K5 is chambered in 9x19mm and primarily issued to commissioned officers in the South Korean military. Built with a forged 7075-T6 aluminum alloy frame and a 4140 steel slide, the pistol offers a balance of strength and lightness, while its forged 4150 steel barrel ensures durability and performance. Its design follows the traditional Browning-style recoil-operated locking system, but what truly distinguishes the K5 is its proprietary “fast action” trigger mechanism—a hybrid system blending elements of single and double action modes. This unique feature allows the hammer to be decocked while keeping the mainspring compressed, enabling a longer, safer initial trigger pull with a lighter weight, ideal for a more accurate first shot.
