Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this pump-action BB gun for a penny-start auction…this is the Daisy No. 107 Buck Jones Special with Floating Compass(Variation 3)!

SPECIFICATIONS:

Manufacturer: Daisy
Model: No. 107 Buck Jones Special with Floating Compass
Date of Manufacture: 1934-1942
Caliber: BB
Finish: Blue
Optics/Sights: Blade Front with Notch Rear
Stock/Grips: Smooth Hardwood Buttstock with Ribbed Forearm
Action: Pump-Action
Markings: Standard / On the left side of the buttstock is an inlaid compass (floating dial) and a sundial (missing the gnomon-shadow casting device).

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Daisy No. 107 Buck Jones Special with Floating Compass is a highly collectible piece of air gun history, produced between 1934 and 1942 during the golden age of American BB guns. This pump-action BB rifle was inspired by the popularity of Hollywood cowboy Buck Jones and was part of Daisy’s strategy to market air rifles through celebrity endorsements, following the success of the Buzz Barton model. The Buck Jones Special features a blued finish, a classic blade front sight paired with a notch rear sight, and a smooth hardwood buttstock with a ribbed forearm, giving it the sturdy and nostalgic feel of a true vintage youth air rifle. What truly sets this model apart, however, is the integrated floating compass inlaid on the left side of the stock, manufactured by the U.S. Gauge Co. of New York, with the word “DAISY” printed above the center bullseye. Accompanying the compass is a sundial, though many surviving examples—like this one—are missing the gnomon, the small device required to cast a shadow.

The Buck Jones Special wasn’t just a toy; it was an icon of 1930s Americana. It blended functionality, promotional flair, and outdoor adventure into one package, fueling the imaginations of countless young shooters during its production run. The inlaid compass and sundial weren’t just decorative—they were symbolic of the era’s fascination with exploration, independence, and the romanticism of the Old West. The floating compass variation (known as Variation 3) followed earlier needle-style designs and remains one of the most sought-after versions among collectors today. Its pump-action mechanism was robust and fun to operate, making it a favorite among boys who wanted a reliable and flashy BB gun. The Buck Jones Special represents more than just an air rifle; it’s a relic of a time when kids' entertainment was powered by the outdoors, imagination, and the magic of Saturday matinee Westerns.
