Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Enfield No. 2 Mk I* is a historically significant British revolver that was a staple sidearm during World War II. Manufactured from 1930 to 1957, this top-break double-action revolver was designed for the .38 S&W cartridge, a caliber that, while sometimes referred to as ".380" in British context, should not be confused with the modern .380 ACP. With its 2-inch barrel, the No. 2 Mk I* is well-suited for close-quarters combat, reflecting its role as a reliable and compact service weapon. The revolver features a blue finish that not only provides durability but also gives it a classic, professional appearance. Its top-break action allows for swift reloading, thanks to the automatic ejector that simultaneously expels all six spent cartridges, an advantage appreciated in the heat of battle.

The Mk I* variant, which represents a significant evolution from the original Mk I, was introduced with a spurless hammer, making it a double-action only revolver. This design choice eliminated the option of single-action fire but simplified the manufacturing process and made the weapon more cost-effective to produce. The Mk I* also saw the introduction of synthetic black checkered grips, which were designed to offer better handling during rapid fire. Despite its improvements, the Mk I* was not universally loved by the troops, many of whom preferred the traditional single-action options or other revolvers like the Smith & Wesson Victory Model. Nevertheless, the Enfield No. 2 Mk I* proved effective for its intended close-range use, and its rapid reloading capability, combined with the practicality of its design, ensured its place in British military service until its gradual replacement by the Browning Hi-Power in the late 1960s.
