The FÉG PA-63 is a compact semi-automatic pistol developed in Hungary during the 1950s, primarily for military and police use throughout the Cold War. Manufactured by Fémáru Fegyver- és Gépgyár (FÉG), it is heavily inspired by the Walther PP/PPK series, both in design and function, though adapted for Eastern Bloc standards. Initially chambered in 9x18mm Makarov, it offered a balance of stopping power and compactness in a lightweight, aluminum alloy frame with a blued steel slide, bringing its unloaded weight to just over 21 ounces. The PA-63 features a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger mechanism, a frame-mounted decocking safety lever, and feeds from an 8-round single-stack magazine. Due to its light frame and relatively stout cartridge, it is known for having a noticeable snap in recoil, but it remains simple, reliable, and easy to maintain. After the Cold War, large quantities were exported as surplus, making the PA-63 a popular and affordable option among collectors and shooters interested in Warsaw Pact small arms.
