Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The FÉG PA-63 is a semi-automatic pistol produced by Hungary’s FÉGARMY Arms Factory. Beginning in the late 1940s, FÉGARMY began making copies of the Walther PP/PPK with their Model 48, closely resembling the Walther PP with minor variations. The evolution of this design led to the creation of the PA-63, chambered for the 9x18mm Makarov cartridge. The PA-63 quickly became the standard issue for Hungarian military and police forces. The military version of the PA-63 features a distinctive two-tone design with a polished aluminum frame and a blue slide, trigger, and hammer assembly. This unusual choice of finish, while reflective, was selected for its cost-effectiveness and faster production. In the United States, PA-63s are sometimes marketed as "PA-63 Makarov," which can confuse buyers into thinking they are purchasing a Makarov pistol. Although both the PA-63 and the Makarov PM are chambered for the same 9x18mm Makarov cartridge and share some design influences from the Walther PP/PPK, they are distinct firearms. The Makarov PM features all-steel construction and different lockwork, with no interchangeable parts between it and the FÉG PA-63.
