Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Forehand & Wadsworth, later known as Forehand Arms, was an American firearms manufacturer based in Worcester, Massachusetts. The company was established in 1871 by Sullivan Forehand and Henry C. Wadsworth following the death of their father-in-law, Ethan Allen, of the well-known firearms company Ethan Allen & Company. Forehand & Wadsworth initially continued the production of firearms, including revolvers, derringers, and rifles, using the knowledge and expertise they inherited from Allen's company. The firm quickly gained a reputation for crafting durable black powder and cartridge revolvers, including notable models like the British Bulldog revolver. In 1890, Henry Wadsworth retired and sold his interest in the company to Sullivan Forehand, leading to the rebranding of the company as Forehand Arms. Under its new name, the company continued to produce a wide range of firearms, although its operations were eventually affected by the passing of Sullivan Forehand in 1898. After his death, Forehand Arms was acquired in 1902 by Hopkins & Allen, a firearms manufacturer based in Connecticut. Hopkins & Allen had already been producing Forehand Arms' revolvers under contract, and the acquisition marked the end of the Forehand & Wadsworth legacy as an independent entity. Forehand Arms' contributions to the early American gun industry, particularly in the realm of affordable, reliable revolvers and derringers, left a lasting mark on the industry.
