Item Description

Bryant Ridge Auction Company is pleased to present this Limited-Release semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction today; this is  Lipsey's Exclusive Glock P80!

The GLOCK P80 revolutionized the firearm industry and established the iconic GLOCK brand. Designed by Gaston Glock for the Austrian military pistol trials in 1981, the handgun won the competition and was designated the Pistole 80. The initial GLOCK pistols produced were marked as P80. In 1986, this same model, known commercially as the G17, was introduced to the US market. Now, with the Lipsey’s Exclusive GLOCK P80 Edition, you have the chance to own a piece of GLOCK history.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In 1981, Gaston Glock introduced a revolutionary polymer-frame pistol that was later adopted by the Austrian Army and designated the Pistole 80. This marked the beginning of Glock's global success and the rise of polymer-framed firearms. To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of this landmark development, Glock has reissued the original P80, though it is not a mere replica but a modern production that closely mirrors the design of the first-generation Glock 17.

The P80, a 9mm Luger pistol, resembles the early Glock 17 but features several key differences from its contemporary counterparts. The GEN1 P80 lacks the accessory rail found in GEN3 models and has a less aggressive grip texture compared to modern versions. It also omits the thumb recess and interchangeable backstraps introduced in later models. Additionally, the GEN1 design includes a single pin above the trigger, which was replaced by a dual-pin setup in later generations before reverting to a single pin in the current GEN5. The finger grooves on the GEN1 are similar to those on the GEN5, reflecting a design continuity.

Despite these similarities, the reissued P80 incorporates modern advancements. It features an nDLC (diamond-like carbon) finish, which offers superior durability and corrosion resistance compared to the original Tenifer coating. This updated finish and other modern manufacturing enhancements blend historical design with contemporary technology.

The original P80 and GEN1 Glock 17 were known for their non-railed frames, absence of finger grooves, and wrap-around pebble-grain texturing. Lipsey’s, in collaboration with Glock, has recreated the GEN1 single-pin frame and original flat extractor while preserving the P80 markings in their 1982 font. Additionally, the classic “Tupperware” style container has been re-manufactured for this special edition (not included with this specific gun.) The Lipsey’s Exclusive Glock P80, developed by Jason Cloessner, Lipsey’s Vice President of Product Development, and Bob Radecki, Glock Inc.'s National Sales Manager, offers modern enthusiasts a chance to own a piece of Glock’s history. This project commemorates the P80's adoption by the Austrian Army and acknowledges its pivotal role in the development of the G17 and Glock's enduring success over the past 30 years.
