The H&R / Manurhin MR96 is a rather unique and somewhat rare French revolver, chambered in .357 Magnum (and .38 Special). Designed during the 1990s as an evolution of Manurhin’s earlier MR-93, the MR96 features a double-action/single-action trigger, a 6-shot cylinder, and was made in multiple barrel lengths (3", 4", 5.25", 6"). Its production was short-lived; it never quite found commercial success, reportedly contributing to Manurhin’s decision to scale back firearms manufacturing. From a build-quality perspective, the MR96 maintains some of the high standards associated with the MR-73 lineage, but it’s positioned more as a sport or service-style revolver rather than a pure match gun. It has good ergonomics with checkered rubber grips and micrometer-adjustable rear sights, making it reasonably practical for range work or personal defense. Performance-wise, being chambered in .357 means it has strong stopping power, but also significant recoil, and its relatively heavy steel frame helps tame that. However, because of its rarity and limited production run, parts and service may be harder to come by, and the revolver tends to be more of a niche collector or enthusiast piece rather than an everyday field gun.
