Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Harrington & Richardson (H&R) Model 922 is one of the company’s most enduring and widely recognized .22 rimfire revolvers, representing the utilitarian spirit of American firearms from the early to mid-20th century. Introduced in 1927 and produced through numerous variations until the late 1980s, the Model 922 evolved across several generations while maintaining its identity as a reliable, affordable, and easy-to-use .22 revolver. Early models featured solid frames and nine-shot cylinders—characteristics that helped set the design apart from many competitors—and the revolver soon became a popular choice for plinking, small-game hunting, and general-purpose shooting. Throughout its long production history, H&R refined lockwork, barrel lengths, grip materials, and finish options, ensuring the Model 922 remained modernized while still rooted in its practical heritage.

Design-wise, the Model 922 embodied the rugged simplicity that defined H&R’s brand. Its double-action mechanism, swing-out cylinder, and straightforward construction made it user-friendly and easy to maintain, while the nine-shot capacity offered more firepower than many .22 revolvers of the era. Later post-war versions featured upgraded sights, improved grips, and more consistent machining, contributing to the revolver’s reputation for dependable accuracy and durability. Although not a high-end or heavily embellished firearm, the Model 922 endures in the collector market for its historical breadth, mechanical charm, and the sheer variety of configurations produced over its six-decade lifespan. It remains a classic example of an American working man’s rimfire revolver—affordable, practical, and built to be used.
