Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Harrington & Richardson Model 1900 is an early 20th-century American single-shot, top-break shotgun introduced in 1901 and produced into the mid-1910s, with most sources indicating production ended around 1915. It was typically manufactured in 12-gauge with chamber lengths ranging from 2 1/4" to 2 1/2", and was available in either extractor or automatic ejector configurations. Barrels were offered in plain steel or twist-steel variants. The Model 1900 featured a break-action design with an exposed hammer and was known for its reliability, making it practical and user-friendly for general utility, small-game hunting, and farm use. Most models were fitted with 28- to 30-inch barrels, a walnut stock, and a case-hardened/blue receiver, giving the gun a simple but durable appearance. Weighing around 6 to 7 pounds, it was well-balanced and rugged enough to serve as a dependable tool for rural families across America. Today, the Model 1900 represents a piece of working-class firearms history—an affordable, no-frills shotgun that helped define a generation of American utility guns.
