Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Harrington & Richardson Model 5200 is a precision bolt-action target rifle produced from 1981 to 1986, during a time when competitive smallbore shooting maintained a strong following in the U.S. Marketed as a cost-effective alternative to high-end match rifles like the Winchester Model 52, the H&R 5200 offered exceptional accuracy and craftsmanship for its price. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle Match, this rifle features a 28-inch heavy barrel finished in deep blue, purpose-built for competition use. The heavy contour of the barrel provides excellent heat resistance and minimizes vibration, critical for maintaining shot-to-shot consistency during extended strings of fire. The rifle was designed with a bolt-action mechanism that cocks on closing and incorporates a fluid feed loading platform, ensuring smooth operation and reliable performance.

The Model 5200 is equipped with a Parker Hale target front sight, a high-quality component favored by precision shooters for its crisp definition and adjustability. While this particular example is not outfitted with a rear sight, the receiver is drilled and tapped, allowing shooters to easily mount a preferred aperture or optical sight system. The full-size walnut-stained birch target stock adds both visual appeal and functionality, featuring a wide forend, integrated accessory rail, and palm stop—hallmarks of a serious competition rifle. Designed to provide excellent ergonomics and stability from prone and benchrest positions, the stock is a key contributor to the rifle’s reputation for accuracy. Though production ended in 1986, the H&R 5200 remains a respected and collectible rifle today, particularly among NRA Smallbore competitors and vintage rimfire enthusiasts who appreciate its military-style construction, robust performance, and historical role in American marksmanship.
