Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Heckler & Koch 940 is a delayed roller lock semi-automatic based on the H&K SL7 design. German engineering at it's finest, this rifle stands out in both the European and American markets as a very desireable hunting rifle. The polygonal rifling has been shown to produce higher velocity projectiles and thus more accurate shots due to the lack of gas leakage around the bullet, and the delayed roller gas system mitigates recoil to give you more of a chance to take a follow-up shot without losing your sight picture.
While it is a very strong and robust weapon, it is also an elegant and handsome weapon, with a graceful walnut stock, finely checkered and well finished. The receiver has a somewhat unusual steel cover over the bolt mechanism, and there is a folding cocking handle on the right side. A box magazine is inserted beneath the action; in Germany this is restricted to a model holding two rounds to comply with various regulations, but for export, magazines holding 5 or 10 rounds can be provided. The magazine retaining catch is in the front of the trigger guard and the safety is on the left side, just above the trigger area.
