Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Hi-Point pistol is the largest firearm made by the company. It uses the .45acp cartridge and features a proprietary integral accessory rail and a thumb safety that doubles as a slide lock. All of Hi-Point's handguns use a blowback design, which is similar to that used in the German Walther PPK and Russian Makarov PM.

The blowback design relies on the return spring and mass of the slide to absorb the rearward force generated by the propulsion of the bullet. As the slide moves back, an extractor hooks the empty casing by the rim and pulls it out of the chamber. The case is then ejected, and the recoil spring moves the slide forward, chambering another round.
While many modern handguns use a locked-breech design and require less mass to remain safe to fire, all Hi-Point firearms are rated for +P ammo. Therefore, the slides are even heftier than what would otherwise be necessary.
